You see! Proof the English and the French can get along just fine...Introducing a generous, warm dose of British Apple Crumble, dolloped on top of some sweet, goldelicous French Toast.
Prepare the Crumble
Preheat your oven to 180°C..
In a mixing bowl, combine the self-raising flour, oats, light brown sugar, cinnamon, and ground ginger.
Add the cold, cubed butter to the mixture.
Using your fingers or a pastry cutter, rub the butter into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
Spread the crumble mixture evenly on a baking tray lined with parchment paper.
Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown. Remove from the oven and let cool.
Prepare the French Toast Mixture
In a shallow dish, whisk together the egg yolks, icing sugar, sugar, plain flour, cinnamon, vanilla extract, and double cream until smooth and well combined.
Cook the French Toast
Heat a non-stick pan or griddle over medium heat and lightly grease with butter.
Dip each slice of brioche into the egg mixture, ensuring both sides are well coated.
Cook the soaked brioche slices in the pan until golden brown and cooked through, about 2-3 minutes per side. Adjust heat as necessary to prevent burning.
Assemble the Apple Crumble French Toast
Place the cooked French toast slices on a serving plate.
Top each slice with a generous spoonful of apple sauce.
Sprinkle the prepared crumble over the applesauce.
Add the Toppings
Drizzle Lyle’s Golden Syrup over the crumble-topped French toast.
Add a dollop of whipped cream on top.
Serve the Apple Crumble French Toast warm and enjoy!
