What is Golden Syrup?
Golden syrup, also known as light treacle, is a by-product of refining sugar cane. It’s an inverted sugar syrup that’s loved by cooks and enjoyed by the whole family. The golden-colored syrup has a buttery and sweetly caramelised flavour with a rich melt-in-the-mouth texture.
What makes Lyle’s Golden Syrup different?
Golden by name and golden by nature, Lyle’s Golden Syrup was invented by our founder, Abram Lyle, in 1881. We are a firm believer in the saying “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”, which is why our glorious golden syrup still features the same authentic, unmistakable taste, and deeply comforting richness as when it was first created – all packaged in the same iconic tin!
Fun fact
Did you know we were awarded a Guinness World Record in 2007 for having the world’s oldest, unchanged brand packaging. It has remained essentially the same since the tin took shape in 1883. Learn more about the history of Lyle’s Golden Syrup.
